
Welcome to the Herefordshire Football Association's Coach & Volunteer Education Programme for 2010
The Herefordshire FA is committed to supporting the development of the game at all levels in our County and offers a range of coach education, medical and volunteer support courses designed to meet the needs of grassroots football in Herefordshire.
FA Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Football The FA Level 1 (Club Coach) course has replaced the Junior Team Manager (JTM) course. The course is designed to provide a basic introduction to the coaching of children up to 16 years of age. There is a balanced mix of practical and theory, including Emergency Aid and Child Protection Modules. Our experienced team of FA qualified tutors provide a quality service designed to support candidates through the course. To gain certification candidates are required to pass the practical assessment. ------------------------------ FA Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Football (UEFA B Part 1) The FA Level 2 Certificate in Coaching football course is designed for candidates aged 16 and over who have had some experience of participation in regular football, at any level, and wish to become more committed to coaching football. A contact time of some 60 hours of guided learning, provides practical demonstrations of basic techniques including passing, ball-control, running with the ball, turning, dribbling, shooting, heading and goalkeeping plus the principles of attack and defence, warm up / cool down. Theory includes planning, preparing and evaluating coaching sessions, football fitness, football food, Emergency Aid, Health and Safety, Laws of the Game and overuse injuries. To gain certification candidates are required to satisfactorily complete a portfolio and pass the practical assessments. ------------------------------- FA Level 3 Certificate in Coaching Football (UEFA B Award) The FA Level 3 certificate is for coaches over the age of 18 who hold the Level 2 Certificate and work with a team over an extensive period of time aiming to make a significant contribution to their performance. The course involves a contact time of some 90 hours of guided learning providing practical demonstrations of development of possession, movement to create space, counter-attacking play, play in the attacking third, regaining possession, defending in the thirds of the field and goalkeeping. Theory includes the learning and coaching process, match and player analysis, team organisation: strategies and tactics, psychological factors, football fitness, football food, injury identification, aspects of first aid, drug awareness and education, preparing, planning, and evaluating coaching session in conjunction with competitive match programmes and attitudes and ethics. To gain certification candidates are required to satisfactorily complete a portfolio and pass the practical assessments. ------------------------------ MEDICAL COURSES
FA Emergency First Aid Certificate The FA Emergency Aid Certificate is for all coaches, medics and referees in football where youngsters are involved, including where Under 18s are playing adult football. For those involved with Charter Standard or taking coaching, medical and refereeing qualifications, Emergency Aid is mandatory. The topics covered in this course include approach to an incident, checking responses, opening the airway, checking the pulse, recovery position, breathing for the casualty, chest compressions, resuscitation, dressing of wounds and heart attacks.
PLEASE NOTE: This course is included as part of FA Level 1 coaching courses.
FIRST AID FOR SPORT COURSE This new course is intended for people aged 16 and above who are actively involved in organised football. This comprehensive course is aimed at personnel acting as 'Manager', 'Coach', 'Trainer', or 'Therapist' for Amateur and Youth Clubs and for Teachers responsible for school teams. This course is designed for all levels of football and other sports.
The course will provide participants with the opportunity to gain fundamental knowledge and skills in order to recognise and manage common illnesses and injuries sustained in football and other sports and administer immediate "Non-Emergency" first aid care.
The course aim is to train a person in the basic knowledge of first aid. It will provide a person with the skills required to identify injuries and provide a level of first aid to prevent these injuries worsening by applying these first aid principles on the pitch side. ---------------------------- FA Level 2 Basic Certificate in the Treatment of Injuries The FA’s Basic Course in the Treatment and Management of Injury is a foundation course open to anyone over the age of 16. It is aimed at personnel acting as ‘Manager’, ‘ Coach’, ‘Trainer’ or ‘Therapist’ for Amateur and Youth Clubs and for Teachers responsible for school teams. The course aims to train a person in the basic knowledge, skills and attitude necessary to recognise and differentiate major from minor injury and the ability to offer basic treatment and injury management advice to a player who has sustained a major injury when playing football. ---------------------------- CHILD PROTECTION & BEST PRACTICE
Child Protection & Best Practice Workshop Child Protection is high on the FA’s agenda. Child Protection is about doing things the right way, allowing children to enjoy the game without abuse of any kind. This is a highly informative and thought provoking 3 hour interactive workshop suitable for any adult involved in football. ---------------------------- INCLUSION
FA Coaching Disabled Footballers Course The FA Coaching Disabled Footballers course is designed to give football coaches and teacher’s ideas and practices for the inclusion of disabled players in football sessions within mainstream or impairment specific sessions. The course lasts 1 day and is both practical and theory based. ------------------------------ GOALKEEPING
FA Level 1 Goalkeeping Coaching Award The Level 1 goalkeeping award is a 3 day course aimed at coaches who wish to learn the basic "technical" aspects of goalkeeping. Practical topics include specific goalkeeping warm ups and cool downs, footwork, the "set" position, general handling techniques, diving saves - catching / deflecting / parrying, dealing with 1v1, and Dealing with crosses. Theory includes the "key technical aspects of goalkeeping" and long term player development (LTPD). Child Protection and Emergency Aid modules also form part of the course. To gain certification candidates are required to pass an assessment. ---------------------------- FA Level 2 Certificate in Goalkeeper Coaching The Level 2 Certificate in Goalkeeper coaching is for coaches over the age of 16 who hold the FA Level 2 Certificate in coaching football and are working with a team and who wish to coach goalkeepers at Non-league or Junior/Youth levels. Practical elements of the course will include warm ups, cool downs, footwork, general handling techniques, shot stopping, dealing with crosses, distribution and communication. Theoretical elements of the course will cover the role of the goalkeeper coach, development of young goalkeepers and growth & development. To gain certification candidates are required to pass an assessment. -----------------------------
