Herefordshire Schools FA Cup Finals

On Tuesday 9th and Wednesday 10th May we saw the annual Herefordshire Schools FA Cup Finals at Edgar Street, with six finals taking place across two evenings.

This year the finals had everything from sudden death penalties, schools mascots, last minute winners and some great goals from distance.

Across the two nights Whitecross managed to come away with three wins from three finals, with victories in the Year 7 and Year 9 finals on the Tuesday against John Masefield and St Mary’s respectively. They then capped this off with another victory on the Wednesday in the Y8 final against John Masefield. This has meant that they have also won the Richard Wydenbach trophy which is awarded to the best school overall throughout the season.

Queen Elizabeth were the Y9 Rural Cup Winners for this season, overcoming Weobley in the final 5-1, Queen Elizabeth took an early lead in the game scoring after 15 seconds. St Marys and John Kyrle then won the U15 and U16 cups respectively.

Across the two nights there was some fantastic football on display, with all the games being very competitive from start to finish. A massive thank you to all of the staff and volunteers, some of whom are pictured above, without their hard work the finals wouldn’t have been able to take place.

All the photos taken over the two nights by Will Cheshire will be made available for all schools and children to use.
