The FA Skills is a unique football coaching programme that gives 5-11s of all abilities the opportunity to get active, learn new football skills and enjoy the game. We’ve been providing high quality football coaching courses for children since 2007 and have to date provided over 3 million child places on the programme, aiming to reach 4.7 million children by 2014.

The Herefordshire FA Skills team provides high quality football coaching in primary schools, after school sessions, charter standard football clubs and holiday sessions.

Primary Schools

The FA Skills Programme works in over 1,000 primary schools a year, providing specialist football skills coaching for children and their teachers. Our coaches will typically work with a primary school in their county one day a week for the duration of half a term, providing specialist, age appropriate coaching for all ages from Years 1 to 6. The Programme’s revolutionary approach to coaching football skills is truly child-centred, is for all ability levels, and focuses on individual boys’ and girls' learning needs.

As well as helping to develop the technique, ball skills and confidence of children in primary schools, The FA  Skills coaches aim to pass on invaluable lesson ideas and guidance on football coaching to their teachers. If your school hasn't had a chance to work with The FA Skills Programme yet, please send us an email at to register your interest in getting a Skills coach into your school in the future. This support programme is free of charge to primary schools.

After School Skills Sessions

After school Skills Centres are weekly football courses for boys and girls who want to improve their football skills outside of school.  Our FA Skills coaches run after school football coaching courses on the same night each week at a local venue. Our after school Skills Centres cater for all abilities, from beginners to more experienced players and provide the opportunity for children to develop technically, psychologically, physically and socially, in line with our FA coaching model.

Charter Standard Clubs

Charter Standard Clubs in the county can apply to have a FA Skills club package. One of our coaches will work with your teams for a number of weeks to support the development of players and coaches. The support can be tailored to individual needs and can take a variety of formats to suit each club and team. These club support packages are free of charge to Charter Standard Clubs.

FA Skills Summer Festivals.

The FA Skills team is offering Charter Standard Clubs in Herefordshire the opportunity to host club festival days throughout the school Summer holidays for their players.

As part of the FA's commitment to developing youth football, we offer clubs the opportunity to host the festivals which generally last the duration of a morning or an afternoon and are completely free of charge to clubs, thanks to our funding. As part of the programme, we welcome boys and girls aged 5-11 years of all abilities to our football coaching sessions, where they can learn new skills, develop their techniques and have lots of fun.

We run the festivals at your club's training venue, or a suitable alternative provided by the club. We also provide CPD opportunities for your club's coaches where they can observe and interact with our coaches as they deliver sessions and we can provide them with session ideas.
