HSFA U16 played two games in February

The U16 Schools Representative team played two fixtures in February. Read how they got on below.

SSFA U16 2 – 1 HSFA U16

On Monday 4th February Herefordshire Schools FA U16s travelled up to Evans Park, the home of Stafford Town for their furthest away fixture to Staffordshire Schools. Staffordshire got off to a bright start scoring from a free kick early in the first half as they were quick to react to a brief melee in the box. HSFA U16 though pulled themselves back into the game and created the better of the chances before halftime. They came out energised after the break and continued to threaten. Eventually HSFA U16 scored a much deserved equaliser thanks to a superb free kick from Archie Muirhead with around 10minutes left to play. As Herefordshire pushed for a second to win the match, Staffordshire pounced to score a late winner and take home the 3pts.

Unfortunately player Marcus Campbell sustained a serious injury during the game and will be out for a significant period of time. Everyone at HSFA wishes Marcus all the best with his recovery.

HSFA U16 2 – 1 WSFA U16

Having travelled to Worcestershire earlier in the season with a bare XI and losing out despite leading 2-1 until the 70th minute, the Herefordshire team were looking forward to the rematch with a full squad. HSFA took the lead midway through a competitive first half after Archie Muirhead latched on to a ball over the top and placed a clinical volley past the keeper. HSFA looked comfortable for the remainder of the half, only to be caught off guard by a low accurate freekick on the edge of the area which narrowly beat Corrieri in net. The second half followed a similar pattern to the first, and the winning goal eventually came from Tom Hamilton after a rapid break from the back. Worcestershire pushed for an equaliser in the latter stages but were kept at bay by some brave defending, ensuring Herefordshire took home the 3pts.
