HFA County Cups 2021-22 First Round Review

The Herefordshire FA County Cups have began for the 2021-2022 season. Here is a round up of the action so far.

The Barrington Print Men’s County Challenge Cup took centre stage this past week as first round matches began and there was a big shock on the cards as Ledbury Town hosted Hereford Lads Club. Current holders and step 5 Hereford Lads Club took on a reinvigorated step 7 Ledbury Town who put in a brilliant display to produce a 6-0 win, putting an early end to Lads Clubs defence of the trophy. Elsewhere Hereford FC saw out a 3-0 victory over Bromyard Town and Westfields convincingly beat Kington Town 6-0, while in an all County League Premier Division match up Wellington Rangers overcame their counterparts Holme Lacy in an entertaining 5-3 victory.

Hereford Pegasus Reserves strolled to an 11-0 win over Ludlow Town Colts to book their place in the quarter finals of the Infinity Care Consultancy HFA Charity Bowl, while 2 new additions to the County League Premier Division, Hereford Lads Club Reserves and Welland FC, fought it out to advance in the competition with Welland taking the spoils on the day, reversing a defeat they received against the same team in a league match just a few weeks prior.

In the Bluefin Sport HFA Junior Cup there were three matches which saw County League Division Two teams taking on and beating teams from County League Division One. Woofferton, Lads Club Colts and Fownhope Reserves all beating higher graded opposition. Newly formed Wellington Colts produced a valiant effort against a very good Tenbury United team from the league above but in the end couldn’t stop the Morris’s of Tenbury as goals from Aaron, Mike and Ryan Morris helped set up a mouth-watering local derby in the second round against Tenbury Town. Kington Town Reserves were pushed hard by last season’s semi-finalist Ewyas Harold Reserves and with the game at 2-2 after 90 minutes Kington eventually overcame their opposition via a penalty shootout. This being the first match to see the changes in HFA County Cup rules take effect, where extra time will no longer be played and drawn matches going straight to penalties.

In the Women’s County Cup Westfields produced a dominant display to run out 4-0 winners against Belmont Wanderers, while the other first round matches between Gloucester City Development, Hay St Marys, Penybont United and Wellington West Mercia are still to be played.

The HFA Giantkillers Cup is back and sees a very competitive field of teams looking to make their way to Edgar Street. First round matches are due to take place week commencing Monday 25th October.

There were goals galore in the Your Herefordshire HFA Youth Cup with Ledbury Swifts, Pegasus, Westfields all managing to secure their place in the next round of the cup.
