Celebrate Girls Football with HFA!

A special football festival organised by Herefordshire FA and Leominster Town FC will take place on Sunday 6th August to celebrate the Women’s…

It doesn’t matter if you’ve never kicked a ball before or play every week; there will be something for everyone on the day. With over two and a half hours of football, girls will be able to join in with matches, skills sessions and various Euro themed games and activities. Furthermore coaches from Leominster Town and PACES will be on hand to start players on their journey to becoming a future Lioness and teach everyone some new skills. There will also be face painting, inflatables and plenty of prizes for everyone who attends including some special Lioness items.

UEFA Women's Final

Once the action comes to an end, everyone will be invited in to the Leominster Town clubhouse to watch the Women’s Euro final and cheer on the two teams. This brilliant event will take place at Leominster Town FC, Bridge Street Leisure Centre, Leominster, HR6 8EA and starts at 1pm. Joe Mathias, Football Development Officer for Herefordshire FA, encouraged any girls interested in the game to attend.

“We know there are loads of girls around Herefordshire who have been watching the euros and enjoy football but don’t realise there are dedicated girls teams for them to play in. This is a great opportunity for them to get into football, make some new friends and find out more. Girls football has grown rapidly over the past few years and we would love to see this continue.”

FA Girls Football Week

Throughout the tournament Herefordshire FA have partnered up with clubs around Herefordshire in a push to get more girls playing football and support the FA’s Gameplan for Growth. Over 168 partners across the country have delivered similar sessions and festivals as part of Girls Football Week. The celebrations will culminate in Leominster on the 6th August with this festival coinciding with the European Championship Final.

Kelly Simmons, FA participation and development director, said: “With The FA’s Gameplan for Growth and target to double participation of women and girls by 2020, we’re looking to harness the excitement of the Lionesses involvement in the Euros to engage more girls than ever before to take part in football.”

Players can just turn up on the day but for more information on the free event or girls football in general please contact Herefordshire FA on Joe.Mathias@HerefordshireFA.com or 01432 342179
