Hereford Lads Club Ladies secure the Midwest Female Football League title on the last day of the season

Lads Club Ladies played their last game on Sunday 6th against Welland with the intention of confirming the league title.

There was a lot riding on the game as TDMS could snatch the league if Lads Club were to lose. Pressure was on more than ever for the team  to perform well, especially after the last meeting against was a hugely competitive battle. Lads Club went into the game knowing they needed to give 100% and couldn’t expect an easy ride.

The game kicked off and both teams played some good football with opportunities from both sides, but 13mins in Sarah Bishop secured the crucial first goal for the Hereford side. Once the first goal had been scored Lads Club relaxed a little and their football started to flow. However Welland managed to break through the midfield on more than one occasion, but were kept out by the defence and keeper. Then 2 mins before half time Mel Mayo flicked the ball into the net to give a 2-0 lead at half time.

A much needed water break at half time and then back for the 2nd half to complete the job. 5 minutes into the half and the speed of the Welland attack meant they pushed through and Zena Jones scored their first goal. So all was still to play for, both sides not giving up but then in the 60th minute Lads Club Captain Emily Morgan  provided  a vital third goal for the Hereford team.

Welland were still determined to try and change the outcome, at no point did they let up the pressure pushing hard until the final whistle.

3-1 to Hereford Lads Club Ladies and League winners, after a long season they earned the celebrations in the club after the game. Marcus Jenkins (team manager) said “We’ve got a great group of girls who play well as a team and encourage each other. Clive Powis has done a fantastic job as coach and congratulations to them all on another successful season.”
