Tupsley Crowned 2017 Veterans League Champions
Six teams from across the county entered the league this year and have competed against each other over the past 5 months. The level of competition was high and in the end the league went right down to the final round of matches. Whilst the league was competitive throughout, it became a two horse race for the title between Tupsley and reigning champions Bromyard heading into the last couple of games.
Both teams had only lost 1 game each (against each other) and both knew a victory in their last game would give them a chance of lifting the trophy. Whilst Tupsley overcame a stubborn Hay St Mary’s in their last match, Bromyard were defeated in a close game against Moorfields and had to settle for second place.
The final league table and all the results are available on full-time here:
The HFA Veterans League offers players over the age of 35 the chance to compete in regular football without the commitment and off-pitch requirements of traditional adult 11v11 football. Games, which are 80minutes in length and allow unlimited rolling substitutions, are played fortnightly with various kick off times to fit around other commitments. All games are played at a central venue meaning teams just need to turn up and play without worrying about officials and pitch bookings.
We would like to Congratulate Tupsley FC and thank all the players and teams for competing in the league this year. Thanks also to Toros FC for letting us use the pitch at Belmont Abbey for the second half of the season. The 2017 season was the most successful yet and Herefordshire FA are looking to expand the league in 2018. Teams and players will be able to register for the 2018 season in December so keep your eyes open for updates.
